Planetarium Session Report
Going to the Show
A special presentation designed for Astronomy students will be held at Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College (on Bradley Avenue in Champaign).
Show Dates & Times:
Shows will be held on Jan. 30 and 31, Feb. 2, 6, 7, 8. Sessions will start at 7 PM and will run about 80 minutes.
Reservations:
The shows are by reservation only because of limited space. You can find reservation and transportation information at http://www.astro.illinois.edu/academics/courses/planetarium/.
Door Charge:
A charge of $3.00 must be paid at the planetarium upon entrance, please bring exact change.
Report
Write a brief, 1 to 1.5 page report providing an overview of the show (no more than 2 pages!). This report should be written in your own words!
You may not copy discussion from classmates, the internet, or any other sources.
- Describe the format of the show and the topics covered.
- Also, highlight one topic that the planetarium session helped you to better understand; briefly explain how the planetarium session aided your understanding.
- Attach the ticket you get at the planetarium to your report.
- Reports are due in class Feb 24 or before
The report will be graded based on the standards below. These provides for 27 points, but the maximum recorded score will be 25 points. Thus, there are 27 chances to earn 25 points.
Descritpion of Show
- 10/10 - Overview of the show is generally adequate and thorough.
- 7/10 - Description only presents format or topics covered, but not both.
- 4/10 - Show description is minimal (e.g. mostly about the bus ride or non-descriptive statements of enthusiasm for the show)
- 1/10 - Little or no description of the show offered
"What You Learned"
- 8/8 - Discussed a topic and how the planetarium show aided understanding.
- 6/8 - Only discussed a topic, not clear how the planetarium helped.
- 4/8 - Discussion demonstrates lack of understanding of topic.
- 0/8 - No topic discussed.
Style
- 4/4 - There may be a few minor errors in sentence construction, usage, grammar, or mechanics.
- 2/4 - There are some common errors (major and minor) in sentence construction and mechanics but the writer generally demonstrates a correct sense of syntax.
- 0/4 - The paper has numerous major errors of grammar, usage, and mechanics.
Ticket
- 5/5 - Ticket from Planetarium show attached to report
- 3/5 - Ticket not attached, but student attached a copy of the reservation confirmation email
