Words are not containers of meaning.
IF words were containers of meaning,
- THEN no one would ever need to look up the definition of a word in a dictionary
A reader makes meaning (from the words in a text) through a process of interpretation grounded in that reader's personal experiences (which include social experiences).
Since no two readers have the exact same experiences,
- two readers can interpret the same text and come up with different meanings (for that text).
Reading is a journey (made by the target audience), and
- a text is a meaning-making path the writer provides for the target audience (to follow),
