Grading
Click here for the "What do I need to get on the Final to get an A, A-, B+, etc. grade calculator. (The link directs you to Stat 100 because the grading systems are identical.)
Grade for required work
3 In-Class Exams (each worth 20 % ): | 60 % |
Homework due every MW (No late hw accepted but lowest 3 hw scores dropped): | 15% |
Final Exam : | 25% |
There are NO make-up exams. If you miss an exam and have written proof of a valid reason, then we'll substitute your Final Exam score for the missed exam (so your Final will count 45% instead of 25%).
Bonus Points
Bonus points are extra credit. You can still get 100% without doing any bonus work. There are a total of 100 Bonus points awarded for:
- 25 points for your Completed Notebook.
We'll look over your notebooks at the final and if the
lectures are all filled in you'll receive all 25 bonus points, otherwise 0 points. (You get 3 pages leeway, meaning that you can miss up to 3 pages and get all 25 points.) This is to encourage you to come to class. I will post lecture videos online after each class, so that you can still fill in the notes even if you miss a class.
- 25 points for iClicker points.
If you participated every day iClickers questions were asked you'll get the full 25 points. If you participated 80% of the days you'll get 80% of the 25 points, etc.
- 25 points for 5 Bonus R exercises submitted on Lon Capa (5 pts. each)
- 25 points for 5 Bonus Surveys submitted on Lon Capa (5 pts. each)
You will be asked to complete surveys on Lon Capa. The surveys are anonymous but Lon Capa records whether or not you submitted a survey.
Bonus points can only help you. You can still get 100% without doing any bonus
work. Bonus points are figured into your grade as follows:
Percentage on Required Work + 0.25*Percentage
on Bonus Points
100 + 0.25*Percentage on Bonus Points
Suppose at the end of the semester you have a 75% average
and you did 100% of the bonus work.
100/4 = 25, so add 25 to the numerator and
denominator to get:
(75 + 25)/ 125 =80.
So your grade would be raised from a 75% to an 80%.
Overall Grade is Translated into a Letter Grade as follows:
