The final project is one of the most challenging task yet in this class. Research after research, I slowly gain information about the group I was interested in finding more about, which is the Students for Environmental Concerns. Designing the website with a lot of texts and information is probably the biggest challenge compared to gathering the information. My goal for this final project is to make a very interactive and informative website that gives the viewer satisfaction after reading it or even make them be more environmentally concerned.

Looking at my webpage, I first thought that I was somewhat a criminal making a forgery, phishing and clickbait project. But on the other hand, I am now confident to identify them and prevent to do those in the future. The phishing project was my favorite because it happened in real life to my close friend back in Seattle. The format was so similar to the one he got that he could not stop laughing when I showed him that. The layout of my webpage is now more visual, interactive and interesting.

Little did I know, creating a forgery project and doing a clickbait webpage is hard. My forgery project started with an idea to create a fake working visa. As an international student, I am struggling to get an internship or job as a food science major because a H1B visa is required. Although forging a fake working visa for this project sounds good, I do not want to get myself near police and immigration trouble. So, I decided to do a U of I Police Department email forgery stating that there is a one week holiday due to a robbery and gang related crime, which I also hope not to get trouble. The clickbait webpage is a little easier than the forgery project because everywhere you go, its all clickbait. YouTube videos have clickbait in both title and clips and websites have those “You will not believe what just happened when ….”. These projects help me identify forgeries and clickbait which will help me in the future not to do those and will help me not to fall into their trap.

Blog One

Hi, I’m Brian! Welcome to my first blog.
Growing up with Asian parents, grade really matter. No matter how hard the class is, mom would be like “Only A? Others can get an A+!” I plan to get the best grade I could get with the help of my peers, TAs and also the professor. The plan consists of checking the calendar often, going to office hours once a while, emailing the professor when in doubt and most importantly schedule study plans and never procrastinate even though the assignment is easier than breathing. I’m not a tech guy, so computers and all those stuff are just not my thing but we are required to design a simple web page in this class. An ongoing plan of mine is to read and watch videos on how to use html and designing a basic web page which will help me in this class and also in the long run.
