Examining UIUC's Independent Newspaper

Welcome to my final project, where I take a critical lens to historical student activism at the University of Illinois. My project centers on my study of archived copies of Vietnam-era alternative newspaper the Walrus. I dig into some of the sociopolitical issues that liberal/"new left"/hippie students investigated during this period of social upheaval in the U.S. Does their style of persuasive and biased journalism hold up today? How is the medium of alternative press a useful tool for mobilizing activists? And would this method hold up today, or is social media doing the same work?
