When choosing a message medium, a writer should consider
- identifying the most appropriate place (or device) for the target audience to come in contact with a text.
The place or device where a member of the target audience comes in contact with a text is called an audience forum.
An audience forum can be:
- a mailbox—for a personal letter, a business letter, or a magazine,
- a front yard—(for a newspaper or a political sign,
- a library or store—for a magazine, a journal, newspaper, or a book,
- a magazine, a journal, or a newspaper—each is a device which contain numerous texts,
- the lobby of an office or hotel—for a brochure, a magazine, or a newspaper
- a business office—for a fax (via fax machine), an email, a personal letter, a business letter, or a magazine
- a doctor's examination room—for a brochure, a pamphlet, or a flier,
- a computer—located almost anywhere—for websites on the internet, email, pod-casts, and RSS feeds,
- a cellphone—located almost anywhere—for websites on the internet, email, podcasts, MP3 files, and
- and many other things or places.
