Historical Event And What The Illini Jounral wrote.

Throughout the Illini Journal's existence, it covered many stories concerning major event in U.S. and the rest of the world. Here are a few interesting articles in the Illini Journal which seemed interesting.

This article talks about the other campus’s right-wing press. In this article they talk about what the other right-wing press in other campus is doing by giving the Dartmouth right-wing press, which is the Dartmouth Review, as an example. This basically criticizes the Dartmouth Review saying that they are doing the whole thing wrong. They say how other campus’s right-wing press is ruining the idea of the conservatism. For instance, the article talks about all the wrong doing of this supposedly “right-wing press” and explain why their reasoning is wrong and justify why they should be erased from the student body.
This article was posted on their first published newspaper, it gave a strong support for how they are not radical and are not planning to shame the idea of conservatism. This would eventually bring about their rationality and their clarity to the reader that they are different from those other right-wing press. I think this article was a good idea to promote their idea because their whole purpose for this journal was to show different perspective on different event in the light of capitalism and conservatism.

This article is about the U.S. foreign policy with the title “The Decade of Cowboy Foreign Policy”. This article criticizes the U.S. foreign policy of how the current government is intervening to protect nation from communism. This article is very surprising because the U.S. president at that time was Bush, who was a republican. This article criticizes on how the Raegan and Bush administrative initiated foreign invasion to mainly keep America’s geopolitical influences. They say how it is understandable that for under developed nation tends to favor land reform and the idea of communism but they also understand that intervening of a sovereign nation ruins it more.
This article greatly tells about the Illini Journal that they do not favor specific political party but rather favors the ideology of right-wing and conservatism. The Idea of right-wing and capitalism is not necessarily keeping America’s foreign economics interest by invading but rather just letting each nation do their development and trade what they’re at best. Capitalism do not promote the idea foreign invasion, economic sabotage. Capitalism supports the idea of improving the society by allocating the resources efficiently and using them in the most efficient way. Through this article we can clearly see that the “Illini Journal” is supporting pure capitalism rather than favoring political parties.
personal thought: A country invading foreign nation to keep their own economic interest is the definition of imperialism.

This youtube video is about Noam Chomsky talking about the U.S. involvement in shaping Latin America. It's rather controversial for me to post this video because Noam chomsky himself is liberal but his idea and the right wing idea of foreign invasion is not different. Because, both capitalism and socialism has the same goal which is the social well being.

This article is titled "Business, Bush, and a cynical veto". It is about the Bush administrative during the 1990 when the president vetoed the 1990 Civil Rights Act. The 1990 Civil Right Act was a bill that would’ve made the employer difficult to discriminate by their sex and race when they employ them. This bill was both passed by the senate and the house but was vetoed by the president. The “Illini Journal” denounce the President action. This is again controversial because it is being conflicted with stereotypical conservative’s images. A stereotypical conservative would clearly support the veto done by the President but the “illini Journal” did not. We would naturally assume that the rightist would be both racist and sexist. In a perfect capitalistic world, will there be a segregation by sex and race? The answer is simply no. In a perfect capitalistic world, a person would be hired by their skills and their ability only and the person leading the business and politics would be the one who is apt for the job through competition.
This article shows how capitalism and its ideology do not promote racism and sexism. This article shows how they are not radical and shows how they are truthful to their ideology.

This article is titled “The Politics of Rich and Poor”. As the name suggest, it is something that people still talks about today. Most people would believe that all this business-friendly policy happened because of the Republican but this article explains how this would be impossible to pass this business-friendly bill without the help of the Democrats too. The editor shows this by saying that both republicans and democrats get almost the identical fund from private business.

This is a small writing about the leftist as the title indicates “Left out … by The Left”. The editor criticizes heavily on the liberal by portraying the them as a hypocrite. The editor said saw how the liberal disagreed with the idea of Gulf War with Iraq. The editor is not justifying the war but furious on how they blame the reason for war to the conservatives and the right-wing. the article gives proof of how the leftist also supported the war because 91% of the American supported the war. This would mean that a majority of the Liberals supported the war too. This is one of the article condemning the general leftist. Throughout the newspaper, this kind of article can be seen easily. This shows how much this journal is dedicated to support and uphold the idea of conservatism and show how the liberal is not always correct morally even though they seem like it. This kind of article makes you think about how word can be biased and how sticking with one newspaper supporting certain ideology could be dangerous.

So What was the "Illini Journal" purpose for writing?

After throughout analyzes of the newspaper the "Illini Journal", one can see the reason for creating such newspaper. As they said it in their first newspaper, their purpose was to have a proper right-wing press which is a different perspective than the other newspaper that was provided in UIUC. UIUC has been a liberal university for some time and it has done the university more good than harm. However, there are also other side which is the right-wing, and the right-wing has also its reasoning many of the presumable conservative action are sometime not constitutionally conservative as it is shown above. While other people may have expressed their ideas through demonstration and other form of activities. I believe that the power of writing is still the best way to express one self, for example, Martin Luther’s 95 thesis was able to spread thanks to the help of writing and this also was a form of demonstration which it lead to the catholic reformation.
