What did the Illini Journal do?
The illini journal was a journal that was established in the 1989. This journal was dedicated to support the right wing or more specifically capitalism and to criticize the liberal. Most people would think that this journal would support the Republicans heavily and criticize the Democrats, however the newspaper does not criticize only the Democrats but also the Republicans. Their idea was to show the reader a different point of view other than the other newspaper which they think was a bit more left leaning.

The editors expressed on their idea with different perspectives in different current events than other newspapers. But before going into details concerning with the Illini Journal we should first discuss about the idea of “Right Wing†and "Left Wing"
The biggest difference between the left and the right is that their political philosophy and economic philosophy is very different. The left believes in liberals with socialist economics policies, while the rights are conservatives with capitalist economics policies. Liberals believe in strong government while conservatives believe in small government. The left believes that a strong government should intervene in the society to make social equality happens while the right think that the government should be small with minimal intervention and this would naturally bring about the social equality. Same with economics, the left believe that government should intervene so that the wealth is distributed evenly where government allocate the resources efficiently while the right believes that the wealth should distributed naturally without government intervention which would be the most efficient way of allocating resources. The Illini Journal supports the right wing and shows the right-wing perspective.
Above is the front page of the 'Illini Journal". Most of the journal's front page is decorated like this shown above
Criticizing the Left through jokes and sarcasm.
The Illini Journal had this page called “A Liberal Dose Of Humor†and it was on every one of the other journals. This liberal dose of humor mainly consists of event that is controversial to the liberal. For instance, on this there is a small article about a governor who is called John Silber, who is very bad mouthed, saying how the Medicare for the old should be revoked by saying “When you’re ripe, its time to go†The editor than implies how most people would think that this person would be republican but its actually a democrat nominated governor. This kind of humor, and sarcasm is the main event on this journal. I think that this kind of sarcastic humor would work well to the reader.
Personal thought:It could be just my personal experience but most politically awaken people are very sarcastic and pessimistic, I think that this is great for those kind of people.
