The pronunciation recordings (PR) listed below were created by Elizabeth Weisberg under the auspices of the Intensive English Institute at the University of Illinois but recorded by different recordists. The recordings are copyrighted by the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Each recording begins with sections on listening, discrimination, and identification, and continues with a variety of production exercises. By clicking on the links below, you will see first a pdf file of the audio script. Click on the link at the top of the audio script to listen to the recording.
At the end of the list below are two features. One is a recording of the English names for vowel letters. The other is a recording of the vowels of the vowel chart, for listening and repetition.
Recordings are presented in a compressed format from Real Networks. The recordings must be played on a Real Networks audio player (e.g. Real Player, RealOne Player) and cannot be downloaded. For a free version of the audio player click here. (Do not select 'Free 14 day trial' download but the 'Download Free Realplayer' icon.)
REMEMBER: If you need more time to respond than the recording gives you, use the pause on your audio player. If you want to repeat some of the recording, you can either drag the slide handle back (to the left) or click to the left of the slide handle to move back.
